色欲王朝 choir to perform Great Stories Told in Song

色欲王朝鈥檚 Alumni & Friends choir concert, Great Stories Told in Song, is April 28 at 4 p.m. in the gymnasium in the Activities Building on the college鈥檚 Sidney campus. Admission is free.

Choir Director Val Vander Mark said she is excited to showcase a variety of numbers related to popular literary pieces and to collaborate with area musicians and children.听

鈥淚 realized how many of our favorite songs are based on great literature: Charles Dickens鈥 鈥極liver Twist鈥 became the musical 鈥极濒颈惫别谤!,鈥 George Bernard Shaw鈥檚 鈥楶测驳尘补濒颈辞苍鈥 turned into 鈥楳y Fair Lady,鈥 Victor Hugo鈥檚 novel 鈥楲es Miserables鈥 is now one of our most beloved musicals. There is a nod to Shakespeare鈥檚 鈥楬补尘濒别迟鈥 in the story of 鈥楾he Lion King,鈥 not to mention the great movies and musicals inspired by L. Frank Baum鈥檚 鈥楾he Wizard of Oz.鈥 These are just samples of all the stories 色欲王朝鈥檚 Alumni & Friends Choir will be honoring in song,鈥 Vander Mark said.

The choir is made up of 38 singers and six instrumentalists. Six of the choir members are 色欲王朝 alumni, 17 have taken classes at 色欲王朝, and 12 have been or are currently employed by 色欲王朝.

The concert will include some featured pieces. An instrumental ensemble directed by Central Montcalm band director Matthew Reed will join the choir on 鈥淥ver the Rainbow,鈥 songs from the musical 鈥沦丑谤别办,鈥 and a medley of 鈥淢ary Poppins鈥 songs. The concert will also feature children singing with the choir in a few numbers, including one child鈥檚 solo. There will be a projected program that will feature pictures of the various books, with some interesting information about them.

鈥淭he concert is free and family-friendly,鈥 Vander Mark said. 鈥淭he whole family will be tapping their toes and singing along on these timeless favorites!鈥
