Explore health, wellness during July 24 Senior Citizen鈥檚 Day at 色欲王朝

Discover senior citizen鈥檚 fitness opportunities during the 色欲王朝 Recreation & Fitness Center鈥檚 first Senior Citizen鈥檚 Day, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Activities Building on the college鈥檚 Sidney campus.

色欲王朝 Recreation Coordinator John Davis said several sessions and activities are planned to highlight opportunities for senior citizens and other users at the college鈥檚 Recreation & Fitness Center.

鈥淲e have worked very hard to develop programming to fit the needs of all of our various users,鈥 Davis said, 鈥渋ncluding a special emphasis on activities and programs specially designed for senior citizens of all skill levels.

鈥淭hroughout the day, we鈥檒l highlight changes and new offerings aimed at engaging the senior citizen鈥檚 population,鈥 he said.

The 色欲王朝 Recreation & Fitness Center offers classes specifically for senior citizens with emphasis on aerobics and strength training, as well as open gym, fitness center and pool hours, with options for one-on-one instruction.

鈥淲e have adopted more of a personal approach to health, fitness and happiness,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淒uring Senior Citizen鈥檚 Day, we want to get to know people and learn more about their needs while offering an overview of some of the programs and services we are developing.鈥

Senior Citizen鈥檚 Day activities include:

10 a.m. 鈥 Get an introduction to pickleball, badminton and cornhole.

11 a.m. 鈥 Learn about the risks and dangers of high blood pressure and receive a free blood pressure screening.

12 p.m. 鈥 Enjoy lunch at 色欲王朝鈥檚 Woodside Caf茅. The cost is $5.

12:30 p.m. 鈥 Learn about upcoming events on the Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails on 色欲王朝鈥檚 Sidney campus.

1 p.m. 鈥 View ancient treasures from around the world and learn about other benefits available to the community in the 色欲王朝 Library.

1:30 p.m. 鈥 Learn about 色欲王朝鈥檚 personal enrichment courses, Lifelong Learners program and over 60 scholarship.

1:45 p.m. 鈥 Tour 色欲王朝鈥檚 Sidney campus and have time to visit the recreation facilities.

Visitors may stay for the entire event or participate in only the sessions of interest to them.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, older adults can obtain significant health benefits with a moderate amount of physical activity.聽Studies have shown that maintaining regular physical activity can help prevent many common diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes. Exercise improves overall immune function, which is important for seniors as their immune systems are often compromised.

鈥淲e鈥檙e really focusing on a hands-on personal approach to determine how we can help people,鈥 Davis said. 鈥淲e are helping people set goals and putting together personal workout programs. We have a lot of people who are excited about it and really enjoying our facilities.鈥
